Statement of Faith
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 ESV
We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and the only rule of faith and practice. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God, speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind and is the sole and final source of all that we believe. Therefore, this statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. II Timothy 3:16-17
1. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19; II Corinthians 13:14
2. We believe in the full deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His shed blood for the forgiveness of sins, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His visible return in power and glory. Colossians 1:13-20
3. We believe that Adam, the first man, willfully disobeyed God, bringing sin and death into the world. As a result, all persons are sinners from conception, which is evidenced in their willful acts of sin; and they are therefore subject to eternal punishment, under the just condemnation of a holy God. John 5:24-25, 28-29
4. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is our High Priest and is the only mediator between God and Man. Hebrews 4:14-16; I Timothy 2:5
5. We believe that all men are lost, sinful, and born separated from God. Thus, personal repentance from sin is necessary for salvation which is received only by the grace of God through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we are justified, and by the act of regeneration of the Holy Spirit. Romans 3:23-26; Romans 5:8; Titus 3:5; John 3:3-17
6. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life through regeneration, sanctification, and empowerment. This enables a life of submission to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior as the Holy Spirit leads us into Truth. Romans 3:23-26; Romans 8:9; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 5:18; John 14:16-17, 16:8-11
8. We believe that support of and participation in the task of fulfilling the great commission (i.e. making disciples of all nations) is the responsibility of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that every follower of Jesus has a spiritual gift to offer and a place in the body of Christ. Romans 12: 4-9; 1 Corinthians 12; Matthew 28:19-20
9. We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, all believers are to love one another and seek to maintain the unity of Christ’s church. John 17:20-23; I Corinthians 12:12-13, John 13:33-34, Ephesians 4:1-3
10. We believe that God created marriage in the beginning, as a blessing for both man and woman, before any sin or rebellion entered the world, and that he created marriage to be between one man and one woman, who enter into a covenant relationship to complement one another, serve one another, and sanctify one another for as long as they both shall live. Accordingly, we reject any attempt to redefine marriage as a union between people of the same sex or as between more than one man and one woman or any other aspect of marriage that is anathema to God’s original design. Concurrently, we believe that a homosexual lifestyle and/or alternative gender identities are contrary to the Bible. Gen. 1:27-28; 2:15-24; Lev 18:22; Lev 20:13a; Matt 15:18-20; 19:4-6; Rom 1:26-27; 1 Cor 6:18; 7:14; Heb 13:14
11. We believe that all of human life is sacred from conception and created by God in His image and that He offers redemption and restoration to all who seek His grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Therefore, we believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, honor, and dignity. Hateful and condemning behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be rejected and are not in accordance with Scripture nor the doctrines of the body of Christ. Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31
12. We believe that there are mysterious aspects of God and His holy Word that have not been revealed to us that require our faith and trust in the Lord. However, we can know the things that God has revealed and are responsible and accountable to obediently serve our Lord in those revealed truths through the grace of God and power of the Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy 29:29, Proverbs 25:2
Statement of Purpose
Directed by the Word of God with the unity given to us from the Holy Spirit, we, Vine Church, seek to live out our lives as a holy devoted act of worship to the good pleasure of our Lord, in accordance with our statement of faith following in the example set before us by Jesus Christ.
We have been commissioned by Christ for the purpose of making disciples by sharing His gospel message with the lost by word and deed. We advocate for Holy Spirit-led engagement and participation in both the corporate weekend worship service as well as smaller weekly seed group gatherings by all believers seeking to bring glory to God through the development and active use of their God-given gifts.
This is for the purpose of building up the body of believers and growing a community that fosters intimate relationships with one another—all to the glory and good pleasure of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
